KISD Redistricts High Schools

Article courtesy of KISD website:

On Monday, February 22, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved the administration’s recommendation to modify the attendance boundaries for Seven Lakes, Cinco Ranch and Taylor High Schools. Only the neighborhoods listed below are impacted by this Attendance Boundary Modification.

Grandfathering and Volunteer Enrollment Option

Under the recommendation approved by the Board, all current high school students are grandfathered to stay at their current campus through graduation. In addition, the Board approved a recommendation to provide families impacted by the Attendance Boundary Modification a one-time Volunteer Enrollment Option (VEO), which would allow those students grandfathered to remain at their current high school to instead choose to move to the new high school. See the Volunteer Enrollment Option webpage for more information.

Note: Students who are currently enrolled in high school this year are grandfathered to continue at their current school for the remainder of their high school career. No action is required to continue enrollment at the current school.

Katy Schools Honored by Newsweek Magazine

For the 20 years I’ve sold Katy real estate, I’ve always thought that what draws home buyers to Katy are our exemplary schools. This is what keeps our property values high even when faced with a national real estate crises.

Now, Newsweek Magazine, yes– that national weekly has ranked four Katy high schools among the best in the nation!

This is phenomenal! Four of our local high schools ranked in the top 1500, equating to top 6%, of the approximately 27,000 public high schools in the nation. Not only is this a terrific accomplishment for each campus but it reflects the outstanding standards of the Katy Independent School District.

Seven Lakes High, (pictured above), garnered the highest ranking coming in at #403. Cinco Ranch High came in at #458. Taylor High was #1,067 and Katy High came in at #1,458.

Each year, Newsweek Magazine ranks public schools based on the number of students who take Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests divided by the number of graduating seniors. According to Newsweek Magazine researchers, to make the list each school must have an index of at least 1.000; this means the school has as many tests as graduates.

For a detailed explanation on how the rankings were calculated, read the article in full.
