Bi-Partisan Push to Extend Homebuyer Tax Incentives

Dallas Congress men push to broaden homebuyer tax credit

According to The Washington Post, “Two Dallas-area congressmen -  one a Democrat, the other a Republican – have introduced bills that not only would broaden the reach of the current housing tax credits to almost everybody, but would keep the program going until either mid-2010 or the end of that year.”

The current credit program expires on the last day of November 2009. H.R. Bill 2619, sponsored by Republican Kenny Marchant, would expand the current $8,000 federal tax credit to all homebuyers–not just first-time buyers. The bill would also extend the federal program through June 2010.

Katy Schools Honored by Newsweek Magazine

seven lakes high school katy texas

For the 20 years I’ve sold Katy real estate, I’ve always thought that what draws home buyers to Katy are our exemplary schools. This is what keeps our property values high even when faced with a national real estate crises.

Now, Newsweek Magazine, yes– that national weekly has ranked four Katy high schools among the best in the nation!

This is phenomenal! Four of our local high schools ranked in the top 1500, equating to top 6%, of the approximately 27,000 public high schools in the nation. Not only is this a terrific accomplishment for each campus but it reflects the outstanding standards of the Katy Independent School District.

Seven Lakes High, (pictured above), garnered the highest ranking coming in at #403. Cinco Ranch High came in at #458. Taylor High was #1,067 and Katy High came in at #1,458.

Each year, Newsweek Magazine ranks public schools based on the number of students who take Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests divided by the number of graduating seniors. According to Newsweek Magazine researchers, to make the list each school must have an index of at least 1.000; this means the school has as many tests as graduates.

For a detailed explanation on how the rankings were calculated, read the article in full.
