The Cinco Ranch community goes back to before Texas became a Republic. In the 1820s, pioneer Moses Austin was granted by the Spanish government the authority to settle 300 families in the valleys of the Brazos and Colorado rivers. He died before he was able to accomplish this, but his son Stephen F. Austin was able to complete his father’s wishes, even under the newly established Mexican government. One of the men who moved into these 300 slots of land (each one over 4000 acres (16 km²) was Randolph Foster, whose land spread across Fort Bend and Waller counties and upon which wild horses, deer, Indians and buffalo lived.
Foster’s daughter married Thomas Blakeley, cattleman and future sheriff of Fort Bend County. Their son, Bassett Blakeley, Read the rest of this entry »

Being a Mom takes precedence over being a Katy TX Realtor. (Unfortunately, I don’t think my kiddos would necessarily agree with this statement. Do you have the same guilt-induced scenarios with your children?) I was a Katy Realtor long before I adopted my children. My career, like motherhood, is very time-consuming. It’s also extremely rewarding but never as meaningful as parenting my children.
Most of this time, I’ve been a single mother and have continued selling real estate with the exception of a two-year break when my son needed intensive physical therapy. I love my children and I love my professional life, too. However, when faced with a decision between being a Mom and a Realtor, of course, I chose parenthood.
My daughter turned 17 on Saturday. It’s almost impossible to think about how old she is and how soon she Read the rest of this entry »

Tongue stuck on the icy pole. Bullies defeated. Chinese Christmas carols and incorrigible language. I don’t know about you but “A Christmas Story” is my all-time favorite Christmas movie! It just doesn’t get any better; every year I enjoy it more and more.
Come celebrate the 25th Anniversary of this holiday classic at LaCenterra in Cinco Ranch on Saturday, December 20 at 6:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, holiday snacks and blankets, Read the rest of this entry »

There are Katy neighborhoods where you can drive down the street and, with a little bit of knowledge, recognize the different builders’ homes from your car, “There’s a Perry; that’s a Village–looks like a Trendmaker!” Still, despite this level of predictability, there are several builders thereby avoiding the look of cookie-cutter-sameness lot-after-lot. Thank goodness for variety (even if we do have a pretty good clue who’s who!)
One of the reasons that the high-end custom sections of Cinco Ranch are so outstanding is that there is a good mix of custom builders in each section. Each custom builder was only allowed “to take” down so many lots. This guaranteed an eclectic and visually appealing mix with a Read the rest of this entry »

Later this week, I will be at the closing table with a young couple who are purchasing their very first home. They have been delightful clients to work with and it will be an honor to sit with them as their dream comes true and the keys are turned over. Although I have sold real estate for 19 years, there is always something so special about helping first-time buyers.
Despite economic bleakness and the panic mode that has ensued, it is a buyers market and a great time to buy! My clients steadfastly proceeded in their pursuit of this most basic and universal American dream, a home of their own. Confident in their job security, with a sound down payment saved, good credit and the desire to change their lifestyle from apartment dwellers to home owners, we set out on our shared journey to find the right home.
It was not without pitfalls. There was a time of frustration when a house they bid on, a beautiful resale home, was swept out from under their offer by a higher bid. Read the rest of this entry »
