Have you Been to the Best Katy site?

I have a favorite Katy site, OnlyKaty.com: The Voice of Katy; it’s the absolute source for everything Katy! Founded and published by Carson Coots, a Katy resident, OnlyKaty.com is an area blog/magazine with regular columnists who cover topics from business, education, dining reviews, area events, sports, family lifestyle and many more subjects. Just wait until you discover The Rhodes Report about all things football in Katy; now, that’s a popular column!

My own Katy real estate column covers topics different from FuellingKaty.com. Recently, I wrote a story about alligators surfacing in our area neighborhoods and a piece about The Economic Revitalization Act, specifically what it means to Katy real estate, Katy Read the rest of this entry »

A Little Staging of Your Katy Home can Translate into More Money

Ready to put your Katy house on the market? If you’re like me, you watch the home decorating TV shows, the real estate shows, and you know a great deal about what makes a home marketable. I don’t have to convince you that a little bit of effort, done before the sign goes in the yard, will be well worth your while.

You know that you should clean everything and get rid of clutter. Aside from that, how do you broaden the appeal of your house? For starters, try to think of it as a “house” not “your home”. Your property has become commodity for which you want to get top dollar; de-personalize it.

No matter the size of your home, it should always look larger. Remove anything that makes a passage way Read the rest of this entry »

Life is Good in Cinco Ranch’s Pumpkin Patch

When my kiddos were little, the place to go to get a pumpkin was Blue Barn Fun Farm in Pattison. Or, let me rephrase that, it was the place the Montessori preschool and KISD elementary schools thought we should visit. It was quite the adventure! Not only a huge pumpkin patch but hayrides, crayfishing, petting zoo and ponies to ride. Throngs of running, squealing little ones. I imagine it’s still a great place to take your children. However, if you’re looking for something a little closer and (maybe) not so chaotic, you don’t need to leave Katy; there’s a free “fun farm” coming to us!

Newland Communities, the developer of Cinco Ranch, will host its Third Annual “Life is Good” Pumpkin Festival in Cinco Ranch West on Saturday, October 25th from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The festival site is on the shores of Spring Lake, a scenic 39-acre lake, at the southwest corner of Cinco Ranch Boulevard and Spring Read the rest of this entry »

Brad and Angelina exclaim, “We Need a Bigger House, Now!”

Despite what the national media says, the real estate market, at least here in Katy, is not belly-up. Granted, there is more inventory and it usually takes several months to sell even the nicest, priced-correctly house, houses are selling and prices are stable if not what they were several years ago when we were in a frenzied seller’s market. This is a buyer’s market but not a bottom-less pit where sellers are lucky to get even the most paltry offer.

We are in a safe zone, meaning we don’t know if the market has bottomed out but it is certainly less expensive than it was a year ago. Waiting to hit the very bottom is a dangerous proposition, just ask anyone Read the rest of this entry »
